Recess
Your child will have outdoor recess on the playground, weather permitting. Please make sure that your child wears appropriate clothing for the weather/season. When we have inclement weather, we will have indoor recess.
School Arrival/Departure
The school day begins at 8:50 AM and dismissal is at 3:05 PM.
Afternoon pick-up will be at the double doors next to the church parking lot starting at 2:55.
If you wish to pick up your child early, please send a note in your child’s folder that morning to alert the office and so we can have your child ready. Parents must check in at the office upon arrival.
Please include “Mrs. Snow/room 215” on all notes.
Bus Tags
Please have your child wear his/her bus tag for the entire year. The bus tags help the teachers on duty direct students to their buses. They also help the bus drivers.
Bus tags should be attached to the front strap of their backpacks. Students will receive bus tags at Open House.
Folders/Backpacks
Each student will receive a folder to provide a place that you can check everyday for school notices, PTO materials, book clubs, school work, and notes from me. It will also be the place where you can put your response to school notices, notes to the office, book club orders/checks, and any notes that you write to me.
It is important that you check the folder every night AND empty it out.
Ms. P or I will check folders every morning as the students arrive. Please return the folder in your child’s backpack daily, for the entire school year.
Lunch / Milk
School lunch, the alternate choice, and milk are free this year. We will eat lunch from 11:30-12:00 each day.
Please let your child know each morning if he/she is having school lunch, the alternate choice, milk, or has a lunch from home.
Students will make their lunch choice each morning so we can let the cafeteria know so they can make enough lunches for everyone at lunch time.
Lunch menus can be found on the school website.
Snack/ Water Bottles
We will be having a morning snack time each day. Please send in a drink and a healthy food item (or 2 max) for snack for your child. Please do not send peanut items for snack, but feel free for lunch as there is a peanut table and a peanut free table in the cafeteria.
Please label and keep your child’s snack separate from their lunch to distinguish between them. Water bottles can be sent in daily. Students can help themselves throughout the day if they get thirsty.
Birthday Celebrations
Birthdays are very exciting for Kindergarten children.
On their birthday (or the day closest to it), we will sing happy birthday at snack time, they will get a birthday crown and a birthday certificate.
We are not permitted to have birthday snacks or treats in class.
Birthday invitations can be distributed in class, please label and place them in your child’s folder and I will discreetly distribute them to take home. Please inform me if your family does not celebrate birthdays.
Scholastic Book Clubs
Scholastic book orders will be sent home in your child’s folder each month. If you would like to purchase books, please return your book order and a check (no cash please) in a sealed envelope labeled with your child’s name, and the words- Book Order in their folder.
Online ordering is available and encouraged at http://www.scholastic.com/. Enter our classroom code TCCW9 .
Every dollar spent earns bonus points for the class to purchase books and other items for the class. Once it’s set up online, ordering each month is easier.
Bathroom / Extra Clothing
Although we do have a bathroom in our classroom, accidents still happen.
Please send in an extra set of clothing in a labeled Ziplock bag, that we will keep here in the classroom. We will send them home at the end of the year.
Coin Classroom Approach
In our classroom we utilize a coin system. When they earn 10 coins they will be allowed to pick a prize from the prize box.
Medicine
All medicines, including cough drops need to be personally delivered to the nurse by an adult.
Please do not send in any medicine or cough drops in your child’s backpack/folder.
Curriculum
This year, our district has adopted Core Knowledge Language Arts (CKLA) as our English Language Arts curriculum. “Core Knowledge Language Arts is a comprehensive language arts curriculum program for students in preschool through grade 5. While teaching skills in reading, writing, listening, and speaking, Core Knowledge Language Arts (CKLA) also builds students’ knowledge and vocabulary in literature, history, geography, and science.” (www.coreknowledge.org/curriculum/language-arts/).
For math, our district uses Envisions 2.0. “enVisionmath2.0 is a comprehensive mathematics curriculum for Grades K-5. It offers the flexibility of print, digital, or blended instruction. enVisionmath2.0 provides the focus, coherence, and rigor needed to meet your standards. Project-based learning, visual learning strategies, and extensive customization options empower every teacher and student.” (https://www.savvas.com/index.cfm?locator=PS2xBv)
Homework
In Kindergarten, homework is not mandatory and is not be graded. However, it is great practice to reinforce skills previously learned. Your child will have math pages that they complete daily in the classroom. There is a third page that is attached to the class pages that is optional homework that is not graded. If you choose to have your child work on this page, you can keep it at home or feel free to send it back to school in their folder and Ms. P or myself will mark it with a smile or a star.
Reading each night with your child is also strongly encouraged!
